The Mahabharata probe discovered Raana in 2116 after travelling through the newly Constructed Celassi stargate. It wasn't until 2120 that Earth sent the first scientific expedition to the thriving forest planet. The 2120 expedition found striking similarities to Earth(*1). They discovered and catalogued many forms of life including an indigenous species of humanoid called the Illarian. But what truly brought humanity to Raana was the large deposits of Rare Earth elements (*2). Almost immediately drilling expeditions were sent to start harvesting the planets resources. But it quickly became apparent that it would be more profitable to create a permanent installation. Soon after in 2137 the first colonist ship filled with settlers prospectors or just people looking for a new life was sent to start a permeant settlement. However this colonization attempt would nearly fail. Due to the hazardous working conditions and the fact that this trip was strictly voluntary it ended up that the population sent to Ranna was around 83% male. And as more ships with colonists came to Raana the percentage of men only grew. It was clear that the colony would be unsustainable for the future as long as departure from earth was voluntary. So in 2247 The earth federation rounded up all criminal, homeless and or unwanted females. They would be sent in waves to Raana to help create a sustainable population. However on Raana these women were not well received. Crime skyrocketed and the small colony was teetering on the edge of a civil war. As a kind of band-aid fix on the situation the IC Law SL001, "Virax’s Amendment" passed in the year 2293 making slavery legal(*3).

HISTORY

The Mahabharata probe discovered Raana in 2116 after travelling through the newly constructed Celassi stargate but it wasn't until 2120 that Earth sent the first scientific expedition to the thriving forest planet. The 2120 expedition found striking similarities to Earth(*1). They discovered and catalogued many forms of life including an indigenous species formally called Inexor Valacae, or Beryll Monkeys. What truly brought humanity to Raana was the large deposits of Rare Earth elements (*2), which spurred the UESA (United Earth Space Agency) to launch the first wave of settlers in 2130.

(*1) Not only was Raana highly suitable for maintaining life, the planet also shared a similar age and oxygen levels. What was really convenient, however, was the planet's rotation speed. With minimal adjustments to the clocks on Raana, later colonists were able to synchronize their time with Earth's, even if a raanic hour was slightly shorter.

(*2)Rare earth elements are 17 similar metals that have different electronic and magnetic properties. They are extremely valuable for their uses in the creation of petroleum products, computer chips, LCD screens, fiber optics, lasers and more.
