Haalu

Haalu is a massive plateau, located about 120 miles west of Ikaanos Colony. The plateau itself covers almost 1,000 square kilometers of land, compromised mostly of thick vegetation and jagged cliffs. Attempts to map the region was made in 2240 and 2264, but both attempts were inconclusive due to the area's difficult topography and wildlife.

Haalu is known for its abundant natural resources, including the only known oil deposits on Raana. Daredevil scavengers, heavily equipped academic expeditions and powerful adventure parties frequently explore the outskirts of Haalu, even if its dangerous fauna are known to have wiped out even the most well-armed crews. After being mostly ignored during the Pre-Severance era, discarded as a difficult and uninteresting landmass, the post-Severance republic of Ikaanos has recently begun attempts at harnessing the resources of Haalu.

The area is home to many legends and stories, involving mysterious sightings, strange creatures, horrifying nightmares and unexplained disappearances.

The Dagosa Cult is said to have built a village or shrine (location currently unknown) in the midst of Haalu's jungles.

History

The Haalu incident (2488)

The Haalu incident in September 2488, was a critical blow to Mordecai Adler's elite force and expansion attempt, when almost 150 space marines were lost or rendered insane after confronting a huge lizard ("tar snake") in the Dagosa tar pit up on the Haalu Plateau.
