Kingdom of David

The Kingdom of David, also known as The Kingdom of New Eden, is the oldest human settlement on Raana. Located to the north of Ikaanos, about a two-week ride away, the Kingdom of David was founded roughly 360 years ago and boasts a small population that traces all the way back to the original clans and town-states formed by the first settlers. Although boasting a very small population compared to the million-plus citizens of Ikaanos, the Davidians are a hardy and resilient people forged from hundreds of years of fighting various natural threats in the swamps and jungles surrounding the capital, New Eden. The harsh terrain also makes any military invasion of the capital from the Kingdom's enemies nearly impossible. Outside of the swamps and jungles that make up the center of Davidian territory are huge swathes of fertile farmland, which are much more exposed and present a tempting target for raids and annexations. The Border Wars were fought for this reason, as Ikaanos attempted to claim some farmland from the Kingdom of David.

The Kingdom of David's military consists of a small standing force of soldiers numbering about 5,000 men. However, the Kingdom also uses a feudal levy system wherein civilians aged 18 to 30 can be conscripted into military service. The current population can support about 15,000 men being called away to war. Any more than that will likely lead to a critical shortage of manpower that would see crucial farmland go untended, risking famine.

The first wavers mostly keep to themselves; the Kingdom of David imports and exports very little. The large amount of farmland ensures that what little they do export is foodstuffs to other nations. Most of this food goes to other first waver clans and settlements, but on rare occasions the Kingdom of David might be convinced to trade some to a second waver nation, particularly if that nation is undergoing a food shortage and is willing to pay absurd prices in trade. They also export animal leather, harvested both from farm animals slaughtered for meat as well as from some of the wildlife living in the jungles and swamps.
