Overview

The Shrine is a building in the MC's yard. It is small and undecorated at the start. The MC can Pray/Meditate there to increase Devotion, alone or with his Followers. Or he can deliver religious Lectures/Sermons there, pro- or anti- Willpower, Corruption or Devotion, to his Followers, or to his entire Household if the Hall has been upgraded enough. The Hall also provides a small daily chance of increasing the Devotion of those members of the MC's household who follow the same Religion as the MC, unless its doors are locked to prevent them accessing it unsupervised (see the figure . It also contains Symbols, upgrading which can increase the daily Devotion increase chance, and also increase the amount of Devotion gained by Praying/Meditating there, and increase the success chance for Lectures performed there.

Upgrading The Hall

By upgrading the hall, the player can include more people in religious lectures/sermons there, as well as increasing the effectiveness of Lectures given there, and increasing the passive influence of the Shrine on his Household.

  • Level I (Starting): A simple stone shrine with enough space to hold up to five people at the same time. It's cozy, even if the draftiness makes it hard for a worshipper to maintain their full spiritual focus.
  • Level II ($1,200): A simple stone shrine with floorboards, an improved altar and renovated windows. +1% to daily NPC Devotion increase chance. +1 to Lecture success chance.
  • Level III ($15,000): A small congregational hall that allows the entire household to participate in lectures and religious sermons. +1% to daily NPC Devotion increase chance (for +2% total from Hall upgrades). +1 to Lecture success chances (for +2 total from Hall upgrades). Lectures can now affect all members of the MC's Household who are at home at the time they are performed, instead of just affecting assigned Followers.

Adding Religious Symbols

The player can add more religious symbols to the Shrine. Each upgrade increases the Devotion gain from meditating/praying there by +1 point, and increases the success chance of Lectures given there by +2 points, and increases by 2% the daily chance of increasing the Devotion of Household members of the MC's faith. The names of the religious symbols depend on the player's religion.

If the player's religion is Atheist:

  • An ancient celestial symbol. (Starting)
  • Medieval tapestry. ($300)
  • A pre-Severance Earth Globe. ($600)
  • Rannica Major - a nicely decorated Raanic Globe. ($3,500)

If the player's religion is The Two Moons:

  • The Sacred Dual Orb. (Starting)
  • The Sacred Dual Orb (gold plated). ($300)
  • A Dark Chalice. ($600)
  • The Ending Vase. ($3,500)

If the player's religion is Aesir:

  • Statue of Odin. (Starting)
  • Statue of Odin (large). ($300)
  • Statue of Frey and Thor. ($600)
  • Large statue of Jörmungandr. ($3,500)

If the player's religion is Christianity:

  • Crucifix. (Starting)
  • Crucifix (gold). ($300)
  • Statue of Saint Mary. ($600)
  • Relic box. ($3,500)

If the player's religion is Cult of The Elder:

  • The all-seeing Eye. (Starting)
  • The all-seeing Eye (gold-plated). ($300)
  • The Sacred Void Vessel. ($600)
  • Statue of The Seeker. ($3,500)

If the player's religion is Islam:

  • Rugs. (Starting)
  • Rugs (comfortable). ($300)
  • Sacred decorations. ($600)
  • Decorated windows. ($3,500)

Praying

The MC can Pray (or Meditate, if Atheist) in the Shrine, which will increase his Devotion to the Religion that he is following. He can pray up to 5 times a day, each session taking an hour. Each session gives the MC +1, +2, +3 or +4 Devotion points, depending on how upgraded his Shrine's Symbols are. The MC's assigned Followers get invited too, and have about a 50% chance of joining, but only if they are of the same Religion. If they join, their Devotion increases +1 point.

Lecturing

The player can also Lecture (or give Sermons to) his household members here, 3 times per day, each Lecture being an hour long, with the options being:

  • Anti Decadence (Decreases Corruption)
  • Pro Decadence (Increases Corruption)
  • Anti Willpower (Decreases Willpower)
  • Pro Willpower (Increases Willpower)
  • Devotion (Increase Devotion of household members that follow the same religion as the player; decreases it otherwise.)

The Lectures are to the MC's assigned Followers, or if the Hall has reached its maximum upgrade size, there is the option of including every member of the MC's Household who is at home at that time (i.e. not working at jobs in shops, lecturing at the Academy, Scavenging, Horse Riding, etc.).

The Lecture success chance is boosted by Shrine Symbol upgrades (+2% per) and Shrine Hall upgrades (+1% per), for a total +0–8% modifier. There is also a daily random "winds of faith" modifier, which could be plus or minus 0–15%.

For Devotion lectures, the MC also has the option of increasing their success chance further by the following:

  • Use Fury! (-10 Stamina points)
  • Religious Zeal (-10 Devotion points)
  • Enhance (-$250)

Devotion Chance

Each day every NPC in the MC's household who is of the same Religion as the MC and who has Devotion is 30+ has a small chance to increase their Devotion, through unsupervised access to the MC's Shrine. The Shrine can be locked to prevent this if the MC wishes. This chance is 0% to 8% depending on how upgraded the Shrine is: +2% for each of the three Symbol upgrades, and +1% for each of the two Hall upgrades. (See "Devotion Chance" at bottom of the Shrine's details page).

Other Actions

Aside from the listed actions above, the player can also lock The Shrine (to stop its daily Devotion increase chance taking effect), rename it, or even demolish it if he does not need it anymore.
