This part is pretty self-explanatory. Your parents, once proud owners of the deteriorated house you're currently occupying, could've served Ikaanos as professors, doctors, soldiers, thieves or big-game hunters.
The character creation process has a pretty straight-forward layout - you can shift between the various categories; biography, social class, attributes, traits and game settings and distribute points at your own pace. Changing age, adding traits and picking social classes will modify skills and attributes on the pane to the right so you can instantly see what a specific trait or skill class means.
You can either Embrace or Revolt against your parents' chosen lifestyle. Embrace provides a boost to all skills within that profession, while Revolt gives you a larger skill spread (jack-of-all-trades style).
Picking your parents' background doesn't lock you into a specific profession. You can freely increase skills that are unrelated to their profession once the game starts.
